The design concept focuses on creating a comfortable and welcoming environment, transcending the exclusive use of wood. The clients’ primary brief was to achieve a balance between comfort, practicality, and budget control. The retreat is intended both as a gathering place for the family, with two small children, and as an investment opportunity through rental opportunities when not in use.
The aesthetic is therefore simple, yet warm and inviting, thanks to the use of cream-toned colors, soft fabrics, and the textured wood.

Entrance and living

The ground floor entrance was tiled and cleared of the old kitchen, ensuring easy and convenient access for snow-covered or wet equipment. The living area thus extends seamlessly between the sofa and dining areas, while the new kitchen is located along the wall adjacent to the staircase, benefiting from increased lighting and proximity to the outdoors, ideal for open-air breakfasts or lunches. The new window opening onto the adjacent plot of land was, in fact, one of the client’s main wishes, and they purchased the space with this very purpose in mind.

The existing wooden staircase, with a traditional design, was redesigned with minimalist metal elements to reflect the project’s underlying concept of practicality and lightness. The fireplace also had a traditional and impractical design, so it was redesigned and equipped with a new safe, certified fireplace insert. The redesign allowed for a better organization of the living area, freeing up usable space. A plasterboard bookcase was integrated next to it, enhancing the space and increasing its functionality.

The sleeping area is located on the upper floor, comprising two bedrooms and two bathrooms. Originally, there was only one bathroom, but the clients felt it was essential to create a second, prioritizing functionality and the simplicity of compact spaces. The upper floor reflects the choice of materials and colors used on the floor below, amplifying the perception of space and ensuring aesthetic continuity. The overall effect is completed by bathroom fixtures, faucets, furnishings, and lighting with rational, clean, and minimalist lines.

Before the intervention

The unit featured a traditional design, both in its finishes and in the architectural configuration of the spaces and the elements that complement it—such as the fireplace, the type of tiling, and the staircase moldings.
